Community Correspondents

Community Correspondents

City Health Partnership Foundation awarded a Culture Health+ grant of £10,000 to Hull's Freedom Festival for an exciting new project to get local people involved in culture in the city.

Community Correspondents is a transformational, creative citizen project, designed to encourage, empower and enable local people to play a central role in the cultural transformation of Hull. Delivered by Freedom Festival Arts Trust, and centred around the annual Freedom Festival ‘Community Correspondents’ became official roaming reporters for the festival, undergoing extensive media training to build skills and confidence, positioning each individual to develop their own narrative, through film, images, writing about the festival and broader arts programme across the city.

Extensive training supported by a programme of unique experiences including ‘Go Sees’ to another international festival, behind-the-scenes media access supported by the BBC and the conception, design and delivery of the first ever Freedom Festival newspaper.  Supporting skills development, increasing social inclusion, building confidence and ultimately placing local people the opportunity to celebrate the cultural renaissance of Hull, Community Correspondents is an initiative which celebrates people and place.
